Cataracts are a side effect of Letrozole. I had to have catarcts removed after 3.5 -4 years on it. No sign of cataracts before Letrozole. There are estrogen receptors on the eye and that is what causes this.
First breast cancer was 1986, right br, 27 yrs ago. Lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. Tamoxifen for 3 years. Diagnosed 2007 2nd br ca, left breast. Radiation. Diagnosed 4/2012 with matastized br ca. lung and bones. Began Femara and Xgeva and wow, the side effects are getting worse: dry eyes, blurry vision, tunnel vision, light sensitive. Feel tired, sluggish drowsy. Very dizzy, joint pain esp in wrists. Leg and feet cramps. The MRI/CT Jan, 2013 did not find any cancer in my body. With this wonderfull news, I asked my onco advice on stopping the Femara and Xgeva... NO! He said I will just have to live with the side effects because the drugs are working.
My labs from primary care Dr. last week were disturbing. Out of range: choles, BP, Glucose, liver and kidneys. These will be rechecked by prim care dr in August, 2013. I'm now taking 3 meds for HBP which also have bad side effects... At least I'm cancer free and am seeking appt w/M D Anderson for add'l opinion re switching meds, stopping or what.
Visual side effects are not listed on femara. However this does not mean they can't happen.Have you had your eyes examined now.
