Been diagnosed Bipolar 1 after 6 months extreme mania/hallucinations/psychosis. Taking 125mg Depakote/ 150mg Lamictal/ 40mg Celexa. I titrated down on the depakote from 250mg and titrated up on Lamictal 25mg/50mg/100mg now 150mg. I have been on this coctail for 20 days now and feel worse than ever. Depressed, sad, irritated, angry and total loss of energy. Can someone tell me does it take lamictal a full 6-8 weeks to work?

Did it take 4 weeks AFTER you reached a therapeutic dose? Or 4 weeks total. I’ve titrate up to 200 mg over the course of 3 months and still don’t feel much of anything. I’m 3.5 weeks on 200 mg
Hi, Anon!
Unlike antidepressants (Lamictal is an anti-convulsant mood stabilizer) it should only take about 4-6 weeks to become fully effective.
Everyone responds differently, but I've been taking lamotrigine for months now and it only took about four weeks to feel like an entirely new person.
Best regards and I hope it works as well for you.

PS, I started lamotrigine because my Depakote worked well for mania but not so much for my depressive episodes.
