... I have recently got some JanuMet(500/50) which some of them will expired in July 2010 (around 154 pills which will take me 2/5 months to finish them)and the rest are for 2011..Are these 154 pills are safe enough to use them or should i put them away???
And Please don't tell me asking my doctor ! She does not know much about it since this pill can not be found down here ( i got them from a friend who lives abroad)..This pill helped my diabetic BS a lot much better than any other pill..I am only not sure about the ones which will expired soon..
Is it safe to take the close expiration's date of JanuMet?

PS : I used to take one Januvia100 plus one Metformin 1000 , once every night..Now i take JanuMet500/50 twice daily with meal..They both work great with the same result..But I always wonder which ones are better to take ? Those 2 pills together once a night or the new combination one(JanuMet) twice daily...

Firstly, All meds have an expiry date, which perhaps you are aware of, expired meds need to be destroyed, no good for use any longer, as both the effectiveness & the efficacy is zero.
Secondly, it is not at all recommended to change/switch meds without consulting your doc who initially prescribed the med, you can always seek a second opinion specially in the case of diabetes which is a lethal ailment, not trying to scare you, I am on diabetic meds & know the consequences well enough of this ailment & seen my health deteriorate.
Please do not self medicate & do not use expired meds, hope this info helps< All the best.
I would strongly recommend that you seek medical advice in taking the anti-diabetic meds in case of Metformin & JanuMet.
Thanks a lot dear buddy..Unfortunately down here (Iran) doctors mostly just keep changing the meds and send you to lab once a while , then change it again..Last time when i asked her " my mother is taking Januvia (she is also a diabetic and lives in USA)and it worked great one her, should i take it too?" She replied "yes , if you can get your hands on it !" So i sent my last full lab result to my mother and she took it her doctor and asked for advice..Her doctor gave ok to take it with precautionary and some advices for lab tests(like for kidney , liver and pancreatitis)..So she sent me few to test which worked great and pulled down my FBS from 200 to 100 in few days..So i got some more from Dubai from a friend who sent few JanuMet as well..I tried both as i mentioned..(After your advice , i destroyed the expired ones..Although i still do not know when said July 2010 ,
it meant July 1 or July 31)..My doctor accepted the result but was not sure if expired ones are ok or not !! Nor knows the differences between Januvia plus Metformin with JanuMet only ! That's why i asked my question..Thanks again..Give me more advices please !!
Thanks, and 'am I glad that my message did help you! You can please ask me any question that you fell like on meds, I will try & help, Iran is fairly advanced as far as medication is concerned. I am surprised that JanuMet is not available, however it shall always be a pleasure to share my experiences with you, take care & be well!
Thanks again... Well , i guess some sanctions caused that , but yet not sure..Many meds are made here (like Actos ) but not any new ones..
PS : Are you from India ?
Yes, I am from India, tashakoor!
Please let me know if I could be of any help?
So glad to know you..I will take your time again..Tashakor !
Most welcome, Salaam Walekaum, anytime.
Ok Rajive , Here i go again for another question if you don't mind..
As i have mentioned i am taking JanuMet and it works great one me..Only one problem(i used to have it before too) , my BS looks good when i test as FBS(around 100) , but 2 hours after having a normal breakfast(a diet one), it jumps to 200 (%100 up!! )..Interesting point is about my lunch and dinner ; they only jump to %50 higher (the most , say around 150)... Why is that so ? Any idea?
What do you take for breakfast? Or after your fasting BS test? I think perhaps the gap between the meals as far as lunch & dinner is concerned is far more then the sugar being tested after the fasting, which is presumably after 2 hours, it also has something to do with metabolism of food, which is greater when we are at work, agreed?
Just observe & also do let me know, by the way I use 20IU of Insulin everyday.
I usually have a glass of milk( laktose free)with small piece of sugar free dark chocolate for breakfast..I take one JanuMet 500/50 and one Actos..
I guess you are right , the working hours may effect on my BS , as my 2 hours test after eating lunch or dinner not go up much..
So you inject insulin? No pill ?
Exactly my friend, its mainly the gap between the meals, I recommend drop the chocolate and take some fruits or add some fruits. Yes I take/inject only Insulin and take 2 meds for HBP. Take care.
Thanks again buddy , i'll give it a try..
.I wish you the best health..
Try it do let me know, take care, friend!
