I've been taking hydroxyzine for 4 days now & even if I take 100mg at once I get no effect what so ever. Was prescribed it for anxiety & nausea but it hasn't helped with either what so ever, doesn't even make me sleepy. Should I give up on it or does it take a while to build up in your system?
Is hydroxyzine not working?

It was prescribed to me a few days ago for panic attacks... The first night it seemed to work but the last few nights its given me hallucinations and audio hallucinations... now tonight it's not working at all... ugh and after I found out my cholesterol and lipids were high... now Im really feeling like Im going to have a heartattack.
I am also on hydroxyzine im on 50mg for my PTSD however its not working and i dont use it much, alas from what my primary care has told me some people get sleepy some people it helps with the panic and some people it does nothing for. So that being said you might need to talk with your primary care or whoever prescribed it i know the feeling though i took 50 mg about 2 hours ago and my heart it still pounding through my chest i hope you get it all figured out good luck
I was taken off of Valium, switched to Ativan, then to BuSpar, then to Hydroxyzine for anxiety due to having to change doctors and no one wants to write prescriptions for benzos anymore. I had an appointment yesterday at the local mental health facility and they told me flat out that they don't write benzo prescriptions.
At any rate, the BuSpar and Hydroxyzine were useless. I started out with 25 mg of Hydroxyzine, and worked my way up to 150 mg with absolutely no effect. The best part is that I have chronic anxiety attacks, and I went through that prescription in less than 2 weeks. It's frustrating. I have to agree with the person talking about hospitalization. If you go in for any kind of mood/emotional/mental issue, they strap you in & keep you for at least 72 hours. This country is strange. >.<
I do not hav anxiety so this may b irrelevant to u but. I do hav a very extreme exgema outbreak and the doctor gave me this prescription to help me sleep and all I need is 30 - 40 mg to make me sleep like a baby
Hi Tasha, I am also prescribed hdroxyzine and I find it pretty much useless. Makes me tired but not sleepy and conflited on whether it amplifies my elavated bood pressure and anxiety. So Good Luck My Dear. -K
its a frigging antihysthtamine, just a strong one, its supposed to make you drowsy, hence the "anti-anxiety benefits" its garbage, no better than freaking benadryl.
I know , right! I cant believe doctors are prescribing this garbage for anxiety. Such bullSh*t! Its benadryl people, kick your doc in the balls and walk out!
I have found that 50 mg of hydroxyzine will help me fall asleep at night but it does not do much for anxiety. On occasion, if I'm feeling just a little jittery it will help, but not much beyond that.
As I said earlier I take Clonazepam for maybe six years. I can take
10 mil. grams up to three times a day.About two years ago I was admitted to a Headache clinic for pain control and to see if blood clot was still in my head.
I was told by the hospital in my home town that the clot was gone and I was just having rebound Headaches, as I was also on Morphine. The first two weeks were for detoxing. Well, I didn't have a problem one in detox. Nothing from Morphine or the Clonazepam. I was jumping for joy, because they seen the Blood clot that was there from the beginning. Our Hospital techs just could not see the clot on the MRI's. To end the story, I think a lot of addictions are caused by over taking of drugs. I took the Morphine, as well as the Clonazepam as directed to. I took the drugs only like I was told to, not like I felt I wanted to.
I hope this helps someone.

I went into the hospital complaining of anxiety, OCD symptoms and horrific nightmares. Yeah! they sent me to lock down. So here I am feeling like I have no control over my life and they take everything and I mean everything away from me. It was like having a scratch on your knee and running to get a band aid and breaking your foot. You no longer worry about the scratch on your leg. Once you voluntarily sign yourself in you are in and they decide when you are out. I had to find out from another patient (not the doctors) that it was the Trazadol I was taking to help me sleep that was causing the nightmares. All they did after two nights and three days was switch my Lexapro to Celexa and gave me a script for Hydroxyzine for anxiety and sleep. I have to say that is like trying to throw a drop of water on an oil rig fire. Absolutely nothing!! I understand that often less is more. I am already on a lot of medications for pain, which I take as directed and do not abuse.
It tool the hospital 20 hrs to figure that out and give me my pain medications. I know that I am physically addicted to them and have to go through detox, but I have been through it before and it was not hard at all.
People just do not believe you when you tell them that. I am going to a clinic today and really hope they give me something to help the anxiety and sleep problems. Sleep is the number one cause of mental problems in the first place. It just seems irresponsible and quite stupid to throw hydroxyzine at such a huge problem. I think it is a cop out for doctors. I really hope that it works for some, but do not feel it would work for the masses at all. I see no problem with prescribing what is actually needed and something that will actually work so long as the patient adheres to the directed dosage.
This is acts as an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. I have used this med and it never did work for me as for as for anxiety. The doctor might try to put you on Vistaril or atarax and it is the same type of drug and it also did nothing for my anxiety. Try Atavin for anxiety may help with nausea if your anxiety is causing it. It is a benzo and can become habit forming. If you just need something for anxiety and you know that the nausea is caused by it I would try buSpar which is for anxiety and is not habit forming.
It should work soon after you take it. Also some may even build up in your body.
I would call Doctor and tell them it's now working and you need to try something different. I have beem taking Clonazepam for about six years and I think it works very well. It's fast and I have had no side affects.
Thanks for your response. It's funny u mentioned Clonazepam cause that's the one I wanted. My nausea is from anxiety & I've lost 30 pounds in just a few months since I couldn't hold food down. One day I found a Clonazepam pill I was prescribed awhile ago. It totally took all my nausea away & for the first time in 3 months I held down food! However, my doc doesn't want to prescribe it to me due to it's addictiveness. I've been on it b4 & actually get no effects from it other then what it's treating
so I've never had that problem. Any advice on how to get him to prescribe it to me??
Since he does not like to prescribe it you may have to look for another doctor who would.
