increasing my dosage from 5mg. will affect my heart rate which I am having problems with already (from Metoprolol that I am taking with Amlodipine).
My doctor mentioned increasing dosage for Amlodipine after my blood pressure had gone up following reduced Metoprolol dosage. Thank you.
Is Amlodipine a dihydropyridine or non-dihydropyridine CCB, will it affect heart rate?

Amlodipine dosed at 5 mg did nothing to reduce my heart rate and it has always been high (around 100-105 bpm). I now take both amlodipine and atenolol and my heart rate has dropped 15 points and my blood pressure dropped as well. It makes sense that your blood pressure went up after a reduction in metoprolol as it is a beta blocker just like atenolol, which both reduce heart rate. It wasn't until my heart rate dropped did I see a reduction in blood pressure. Calcium channel blockers and beta blockers like amlodipine and atenolol, respectively, work well together for blood pressure control. I take both amlodipine and atenolol in the morning together and my blood pressure levels are in control and consistent.
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, perhaps due to the fact that your BP has gone up, maybe the doc prescribed to increase the dose.
I take Amlopdipne 5mg X 2 times a day along with Metoprolol 100mg SR once a day.
Maybe, you would like to seek an second opinion, take care, please.
