Can I take imitrex after it's experation date?

I've always thought you shouldn't take meds past their expiration date but I have also heard that some can be OK as long as a year past their expire date.
However some get toxic past expiration date so maybe you can call the manufacturing company for an answer on whether imitrex gets ineffective or toxic past its intended expire date.
