i was given a medrol dose pack for back pain, and also percocet, but do not want to take the percocet so that i can try to work. Why can't i take ibuprofen for pain while on the dose pack?

They are both anti inflammatories. The 2 together would tear up your stomach.

Oh, and what is wrong with your back? The steroids should help like the ibuprofen would.
