I take once maybe twice a week and have always avoided alcohol just because the situation has never come up.
I took 1mg of Xanax 6 hours before drinking, is this dangerous? I rarely ever take the Xanax?

Hi Tokie... Laurie is correct. I just would like to add a few things. One whole mg of Xanax is a hefty amount. In six hours much of the drug's effects will be gone, but from my personal experience, even if I take 0.5 mg I am pretty sleepy for at least 6 hrs. Everyone's system is different, depending on tolerance, metabolism, etc. I would be very careful. Even if you are not feeling any of the effects of the Xanax any longer, then liver breaks down he Xanax into a lesser but still slightly active metabolite of the drug. The effects alcohol will definitely be potentiated by the Xanax and it's metabolites. It will take much less alcohol to feel the normal effect that you would experience if you had taken no Xanax. So, my friend, please be careful and monitor your own body's effects. I would definitely not drive or participate in any activity that could be dangerous to yourself or to others.
It I wise that you have even considered this. Good luck and be safe. Happy weekend and stay well...
While drinking alcohol when taking a medication like xanax can cause central nervous system and respiratory depression, given the length of time between and the minimal amount it isn't dangerous. If you were to abuse either substance then it would be a different story.
