My doctor prescribed hydroxyzine for me July 28 for anxiety. Blood pressure is normal but my pulse has been as high as 103 bpm, now leveled to 80's. I have petit mal epilepsy and take lamictal (lamotrigine). After moving a new doctor has given hydroxyzine to replace Librium. I have never had fast pulse until the change of meds. He told me it might take several days for it to get full benefit.
Since this note from you is several weeks old, I would like to know if you stayed on hydroxyzine or have gone to a different med for anxiety.
Not sure 100%, but it sounds to me that you have talked yourself into a panic attact. I too am afraid of meditations and on several occasions done the same thing. 30 minutes is not enough time for Atarax (hydroxyzine) to really do anything other than just barely start to work. It took me about 45 to 60 minutes to start feeling the drug starting to work and my anxiety to lessen. Although it is always a good idea to talk to your doctor when your having problems as that is the person who knows you best and can give you the best advice. Hope I was of some help
Keep taking the meds as prescribed. The hydroxyzine is an antihistamine that reduces anxiety. Eventually, upwards of a month, the Zoloft will address this symptom. In the meantime use the hydroxyzine to help with any heightened anxiety while taking the Zoloft. You may experience some mild side effects when first starting the Zoloft, but these generally subside within the first couple weeks. If you have been on Zoloft for awhile, then you may need an adjustment in dosage.
You're going to have to talk to someone. The meds for anxiety are causing anxiety, so a therapist or someone might help.
Thank you
It is extremely dangerous for anyone to dispense medical advice on-line to anyone unless you are a doctor who is familiar with this medication and is able to evaluate the person in his or her office. By the way, this medicine is NOT an anxiety medication. This medication, which is also known as Visteril is used "off-label" for Panic Attacks. I have been prescribed this medication ONLY by a non-psychiatrist who was afraid to treat the causes on anxiety, panic attacks, panic disorder, etc. Good luck to the OP...
