You've reached the 2 years limit. Your body is telling you it needs a break.
If you go to the Manufacturer's website, you'll see there's an info sheet available for prescribers of Depo Provera, stating that the patient should not be on Depo Provera longer than 2 years. Even the Manufacturer says that!
If you have no other option for contraception, then they advise that you should take breaks every couple of years (partly due to the risks associated with this Drug, including osteoporosis) & have an MRI scan after a significant time of being on Depo, to monitor your bone density. Bone thinning is known to be associated with this Drug.
You can ask your doctor to prescribe more artificial hormones to stop the bleeding, but I'd advise listening to your body, as you may be storing up problems for later in life.
Lots of women have bleeding at the 2 years point of being on Depo. I'd suggest it is for good reason.
Thank you for your help!! Makes perfect sense
You're very welcome. Thank you for saying 'thank you'! Most don't bother.
Over time on Depo, the lining of the womb tends to build up, sometimes leaking now & then, especially when the cervix is nudged during intercourse.
It can take a while to get rid of the built up lining, depending on how quickly it comes away. It sounds like it's already quite heavy.
If you struggle after a month or two of being off Depo, & want to get your periods regular again, then Vitex is a great natural product that I had success with, after Depo. You can use it as long as you're not using hormonal birth control, as they'd work against each other. Hormonal birth control deliberately creates a hormonal imbalance to prevent pregnancy, whereas Vitex works to gently rebalance the hormones.
Oh wow I always say please and thank you lol
My depo shot is due the 26th and I'm going to mention this to my Dr. And ask for the BC you had after.
I didn't have birth control after. The product after was bought from a health store, to help my periods get back to normal. That's why I was saying you can't use it with birth control.
I mentioned it in case you have trouble getting regular periods back.
