Clindamycin is used for bacterial infections, & is used for female bladder infections. Did your doctor prescribe it for this? If not, do not start it until you have the urine checked by your doctor. You should not be taking left over medicine from a previous condition. Infact you shouldn't have leftover as all antibiotics should be consumed until gone not just until you fell better. Please give your doctor a call & tell them your symptoms. Mary 632009
I pulled this from info here on drugs.com I respectfully disagree about using this for a female bladder infection. It is possible it may be used but most urinary tract infections are from E. Coli from the digestive tract. Clidamycin is not indicated for this use. See below. I will try to paste a link in another comment
Cleocin Phosphate is indicated in the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated organisms in the conditions listed below:
Lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia, empyema, and lung abscess caused by anaerobes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, other streptococci (except E. faecalis), and Staphylococcus aureus.
Skin and skin structure infections caused by Streptococci.
Gynecological infections including endometritis, nongonococcal tubo-ovarian abscess, pelvic cellulitis, and postsurgical vaginal cuff infection caused by susceptible anaerobes.
Intra-abdominal infections including peritonitis and intra-abdominal abscess caused by susceptible anaerobic organisms.
Septicemia caused by Staphylococcus aureus, streptococci (except Enterococcus faecalis), and susceptible anaerobes.
Bone and joint infections including acute hematogenous osteomyelitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus and as adjunctive therapy in the surgical treatment of chronic bone and joint infections due to susceptible organisms.
If you are having pain, blood in the urine, and not urinating much you need to be evaluated by your healthcare provider. Dont wait too long to do it either. My cousin was just released from the hospital. She had started with the same symptoms as you but since she didnt have insurance so she waited and ended up with Sepsis and was admitted to the ICU, went into respiratory failure and had to be on a ventilator for awhile. She almost died from it. She had a kidney stone and a urinary tract infection and she waited so long the infection invaded her whole body. Dont try to treat yourself at home with leftover antibiotics. Antibiotics have to be prescribed in a full course of treatment or they can do more harm than good. Clindamycin is not indicated for E. Coli which is what is the cause of most bladder infections.
Urinary tract symptoms like this should be evaluated by a doctor at once! I hope you seek the help that you need and that you improve soon, this can be serious and further complications can be prevented by proper treatment
Please let us know how you do and please seek medical help,
wow i was shocked to hear about e, coli being the cause of most bladder infections, don't understand how i would have gotten this, thanks for the info, not having insurance is a sad thing these days, i got the meds from a friend and wanted info before taking thanks it helped
I use to be pron to recurrent Urinary tract infections one of the first things I could count on was a specimen and not just the specimen but one urine taken by clean catch for a culture to see what bacteria was in the Urine then following that they did a sensitivity test to see what drugs were most effective in erradicating the infection, my doctor has a policy in her office NO antibiotics are phoned in without she see;s me (or any other patient) she says antibiotics are given too many times without knowing what they are being given for and if it's the correct antibiotic, I wish you the very best,
E. Coli lives in your digestive tract so it is really not surprising it is the most common couse of bladder infections in females due to the close proximity of female anatomy. There are other bacterias that can cause bladder infection but E. Coli is one of the most common. Like Caringsonbj said. You should have a clean catch urine specimen with a culture and sensitivity done to see what bacteria is growing in your case and the antibiotics it is sensitive to. You should never use left over antibiotics. Antibiotics have to be prescribed for a specific bacteria for a prescribed course of time. If a person does not finish their antibiotics, the infection they had may have not been completely irradicated and if they have left overs because a doctor changed antibiotics when he found out after a C&S he needed a different antibiotic, there is not enough left over antibiotic for a complete course so you may not kill all of the infection when taking left overs.
