I have been using doxycycline hyclate for acne and was wondering how long does it stay within my system once I stop taking it? I need to know so that I can plan a safe pregnancy.
How long before should I stop taking doxycycline hyclate if I plan to get pregnant?

The elimination half life of doxycycline is between 18 - 22 hours. It takes approximately 5.5 x elimination half life for a medicine to be cleared from ones system, so doxycycline should be out of your system in about 121 hours or 5 days (5.5 x 22 hours). Give it a good 2 weeks if you want and then start trying to become pregnant and by then doxycycline should definitely be all cleared from your system.
Thanks for asking, and answering this! I JUST left this very question on my dermatologists voicemail this morning. I too have been on this medication for acne but want to cease treatment and try to conceive. I just took one pill, 100 MG capsule, last night, however I wanted to try to conceive starting as early as Monday. Is this enough time for the Doxycycline Hyclate to be out of my system? I have not been taking this as prescribed. I was prescribed the pill twice a day for acne, but I was given prescription in January and have not even completed one bottle. Hopefully the traces are small enough...
