I was only on 150 mg for 3 months, but new doctor doesn't "believe" in it for bipolar so won't prescribe more. I didn't have many left so in two weeks have gone to 75 a night. The headaches are getting worse, and I only have enough for 75 every other night for one week now. Suggestions?
I am getting horrible headaches coming off the oxcarbazepine?

Hi, crazy gal!
Oxcarbazepine withdrawal is not known to have much in the way of side effects but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen just that hasn't been reported. The main reason for a slow withdrawal is to prevent a recurrence of the original mood swings of Bipolar. Your doctor may not believe that your headaches are due to the oxcarbazepine but it would be wise to rule out any other possible coincidental cause. Do let them know about the headaches.
Did they prescribe a different medication or suggest a new plan of treatment? Are you taking any other meds?
Sorry for the questions. Just curious what your doctor is prescribing.
He wants me to stick with the Depakote. I can't stand it I have gained tremendous weight. I tried to explain and he said "you're stable". I'll work with my therapist till then and try to ask for a medication change when we meet again. In a perfect world the doctors would have to try the meds they prescribe and feel what we go through. I don't see it happening soon. I do take other meds, Wellbutrin, clonazepam and Seroquel. It took me a few years to come off the Topamax (slow so I would stay stable) so I could start something new. It's always tough to start with a new doctor.
