I've had hypertension all of adult life and I also use the saline nasal rinse. Since you only use it at most once a day don't be concerned about it. If you use it less then so much the better. I wouldn't let my hypertension stop me from using it... but I take meds for it, maybe you don't. There can't cannot be much, if any, affect on your blood pressure. I use it and have wondered about that myself because when I lay down at night to got to sleep (I sleep on my back) it drains down my throat... but my ENT doc recommended the nasal rinse for me and he knows my medical conditions. The nasal rinse is the only thing that works really quick for me... and believe it or not... "HeadOn" actually helps on my sinus headaches... ice packs or hot packs help too but they're more trouble and don't feel so good... especially the ice packs. Don't worry about your saline solution... BTW, you didn't say a word about how much salt you put in the 8oz of water... that's a key question to a good answer. If you put a teaspoon in I understand... but if you put 2 tablespoons in I may answer differently. God Bless you and good luck to you. I hope this helps some. I'm not in the medical profession but have had health problems all my life.
thanks for the input. Back when I was a young adult, my friends and I snorted coke - and that gets right into your bloodstream! so I was thinking maybe the saline irrigation had a similar effect.
I use 1 teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of water (the 1 tsp got hidden in the title). 1/2 teaspoon sodium is the daily recommended "allowance" ... and I use the nasal irrigation twice a day ... I currently don't take any meds and would rather stay that way. I'm trying to go without the saline irrigation for the next couple of weeks to see what effect it has on my BP.
That sounds like a good approach IF you can go that long without needing it. And that approach will give you your answer. Good luck.
