I would like to ask a question about the relation between Synthroid dose, and lithium dose.

How can I distinguish hyperthyroidism from hypomania? I can no longer tolerate lithium and at 0 level, with Synthroid still taken at 0.112, I get excessive hyperactivity, energy, hunger, tremors, and anxiety. This happens after taking the Synthroid in a.m. and is palliated by lithium, which has now become toxic (40 yrs. on it) and I can no longer tolerate.
I hope to ask my question again to a psychiatrist; I have already asked general physicians, and it seems to be a puzzle.
Thank for reading, and excuse me if I have repeated this question before
I take both lithium and Synthroid myself. My levels of lithium are on the lower side 0.4. My doctor said as long as I feel well its fine. I've been on since 14 years. My Synthroid is 137mgs because I have no thyroid because I had cancer and I'm suppressed under 1.0. I feel fine. See if you can see an Endocrinologist along with a physician who understands levels. Hope this helps. Smileyhappy

I'm sorry you had cancer Smiley (was it thyroid cancer?). But I am happy with your report of a good adjustment between lithium and Synthroid. At 14 years of lithium treatment I had no complaints, but at 40 years, with bad ACE, Beta blocker, and some other antihypertensives, and antibiotics interaction (past few years), I was in deep doodoo and at the ER. I agree that an endocrinologist collaborating with a dr. or psychiatrist may get the correct diagnosis or level for me, but these are hard times on health care workers and probably very had to find. Take care and thank you for your reply.

I know with Covid 19 it's been very hard on anyone needing health care for sure. Yes I had thyroid cancer in 2012 but in remission after surgery and radioactiveiodine (RAI). Hoping you get better,
