My Dr told me to stop taking brilinta i didn't have bad side effects from taking this medication and noticed 17 months has passed and after researching how long to take brilinta noticed i was to take it for 12 months what are my chances of having another heart attack because i stopped taking brilinta.
What can happen to my stent if I stop taking brilinta after the recommended one year?

Brilinta (ticagrelor) helps to prevent platelets in your blood from sticking together and forming a blood clot (thrombosis) which could lead to a fatal heart attack.
It is recommended that you take Brilinta for at least 12 months after having a stent placement to reduce the risk of stent thrombosis. If therapy is stopped early a stent thrombosis could develop resulting in a heart attack. Recent studies suggest that taking anti-platelets for longer (up to 30 months) may reduce your risk even further but may be associated with a higher risk of bleeding.
I was switched from Plavix to brilliant back in April. I have had shortness of breath, bruising badly and hemoraging in my blurry eye. I took myself off brillenta for 2 days and the blurry eye cleared up. My cardiologist did not want to take me off this either. I am 3 weeks away from being on a blood thinner for a year. Evidently doctors want you on it a year as it can induce a thickening in the blood and compromise the stent! I hope you are still doing well. I can't wait to be off this!

It's complicated but I've had 2 heart attacks & a total of 3 stents over a 16 year period. I have been on both plavix & brilenta . Please do not quit taking some kind of thinner. I did that once and sure enough I had another heart attack (due to blockage).
