My vet suggest breaking up the Tram tablet and giving my old tomcat 2 mg per pound of weight. She told me that it is often used for cats as well as dogs, but that dogs seem to respond better. She does not prescribe Tramadol due to the hassle of recording and documenting a Federally- regulated narcotic. (Which Tramadol is not!) When he limps and growls at the same time, I can sometimes get 15-16 mg onto the back of his tongue and make him swallow. He often seems to get some relief, judging by his actions and movement, but not always. I hope this helps!
I suggest you ask your Veterinarian first.
