I find my anxiety has been building up around 11:00am-12:00pm and the again around 4:00pm -5:00pm. I wait each day to see if I really need it and find that I do. I’m using .25mg twice a day now. I use mirtazapine at night and that works well for sleep.
I wonder if the anxiety will ever lessen? I’ve used 15mg of mirtazapine for two weeks now and the depression has improved. The anxiety is still around during the day. Can anyone shed light on my med plan?
Generalized Anxiety Disorder - How do you judge when to take your anti-anxiety med, like clonazepam?

Hello.
I agree. The best thing you are doing for yourself is taking ONLY as needed but don't go past that point where you anticipated a "need" and never take it as a habit because you are defeating the "as needed" as your system will eventually get used to getting a dose. Therefore your body will stop producing the naturally occurring substance and a high possibly that the medicine will take over leading to building a tolerance that leads to higher dose. In short, addictive behavior.
That's why most benzodiazepine prescriptions are written that way. are prescribed ONLY AS NEEDED because these meds have a high degree of addiction and can be very hard to discontinue. You may need a faster acting anxiety med (1/2life) like Ana but run this past your doctor.

ALWAYS CONSULT A Health Care PROFESSIONAL
Red,
Clonazepam is fast acting and usually takes about an hour to reach maximum blood levels so if you're aware of when the anxiety is going to hit you might take it a little before.
MIRTAZAPINE:
Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve."
Antidepressants usually work faster for depression... anxiety takes a little longer as a rule.
Thanks, WC.
