Has anyone else experienced bloating from taking flexeril?
I had a severe muscle spasm in my neck, the immediate care dr prescribed flexeril 10mg, and ibuprofen 800. The pain definitely decreased but now i look 5 months pregnant with a painful hard bloated belly. I know it can cause constipation but im having trouble finding anything about it causing bloat like this. I have had major issues with small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) before and experienced bloating like this for months before I finally discovered an antibiotic regimen that worked. I am terrified of having a relapse so I guess im hoping its the Flexeril
Flexeril causing severe bloating?

At 85 soon and been thru a lot BUT the pharma drugs I've entertained for pain and spasms, no good and end up with side effects from the drugs. Magnesium, work with it and take it daily for spasms and not so high doses of ibuprofen and also take it on a stomach that has food in it. I'm having nice results with T-Relief+12 Arnica tablets... takes longer to help pain issues but no side effects and safer than drugs.
I also only took the medication for 3 days (after a car accident) and I am now on my third day off and my stomach is hard as a rock and huge. I am naturally lean so it is ridiculously noticeable and VERY uncomfortable. I have also noticed swelling in the rest of my body. I ended up choosing to take higher doses of magnesium when I went off of it and that helped far more than the drug and zero side effects.
I just wonder what the heck it's doing to my GI tract and my gut in this process!!!
If you have intestinal problems I wouldn’t take either medication. I took both for my pain and spastic muscles. The Ibuprofen or naproxen caused a lot of discomfort both can cause intestinal problems themselves as they’re prescribed together with flexeril often. Flexeril has caused me major discomfort add ibuprofen along with it you’re waiting for a mess. Both caused my edema to flare up as well. I would not take anymore and make and appointment since, I would not wait to long to see your physician...
Short term use is fine for most people. I had a small intestinal bleed from naproxen and had taken flexeril at the time as well. I tried to use the bathroom I will just say I was crying had no phone couldn’t move for four hours.
I hope that you feel better. I try my best not to take either of them. Soma helped my muscles best. I would retain a little fluid the only side effect really was I felt very relaxed and pain free quickly. Flexeril didn’t work so well for me personally.
I am a 67 yr old female, weighing 98 lbs. My doctor prescribed cyclobenzaprine for hip pain. I took 5 mg of cyclobenzaprine and had face-swelling, flushed, numbness, hot to touch. I also had drowsiness and some fast heart beats. I did not take anymore cyclobenzaprine. After 40 hrs of taking the one dose, I am still light headed, tired and face is slightly swollen, but not numb or hot. I take N-Acetyl L-Cysteine daily with vitamins. Will I have any permanent damage due to that one dose? How long will I have these adverse symptoms? Thank you, Robbie
I have only taken it for 3 days and I look like i'm 6 months pregnant
Yes! It absolutely causes weight gain and bloating! Luckily I figured it out within a week . I went from flat tummy to looking six months pregnant. My face , fingers also became bloated like . Don't listen to FDA r any dr it does cause u to bloat and gain
MCB; here is a copy and paste from drugs.com that does show, Stomach and bloating.(((( Less common or rare:
Bloated feeling or gas, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, or stomach cramps or pain
constipation)))) MCB; as you can see it is in the less common but it looks like you may be the unlucky one I would check with the doctor and either stop if its to bad or use sparingly until you can talk to the doctor and get something else. Sorry but with all the stomach problems you have had it would probably be best to stop this medication until you can reach your doctor. Good luck
MCB; AS you know Ibuprofen also is hard on the gi tract so make sure you are taking it with a meal or glass of milk. And if you can get by without the Flexeril until you chat with your doctor. No sense in putting yourself thru more discomfort. Try and enjoy your weekend.
Thank you Chuck1957,
I stopped taking the flexeril and the stomach issues have decreased noticeably. I appreciate you taking the time!
