Where can I find Vicks 44 cough medicine? Walmart doesn't carry this item?

All of the Vicks formula 44 products were excellent. If all you had was a cough, you used Vicks Formula 44. If you were congested, it was Formula 44D. They also had an expectorant-Formula 44E. I would just review my symptoms or that of my husband or child, and get the appropriate one. This was convenient health care that you didn't always have to run to the Dr. for! My mother even used it for me when I was a child.

I haven't been able to find the original Vicks Formula 44D that was the best in the 60's and 70's. I was told by a pharmacist this the original had approx. 22% alcohol in the 50's and that the USDA made them reduce it to 12% so that it would be less than the allowable alcohol in wine. It was still effective and then disappeared. I'm getting to be near 70 and I can't find it anywhere near me. I'm suffering with a cold now and hoping I'll be able to find it online. Sadly, great products can't survive because someone always find something wrong with them, usually a competitor with an inferior product.

I found it at Walgreens for $14 a bottle! Feel like they are gouging us with that price and they are the only ones that carry it!

I agree. Vicks Formula 44D was the best. It worked! That's why they don't make it. I grew up on that stuff. I'm talkung about the late 1970's. It was a black burning syrup that my mom gave me and my siblings for our cough that always healed us. Then they changed the formula to Vicks Formula 44M. It was okay, but nothing like the original 44D.
I completely understand your dilemma. I have a cold and cough and have spent over $50 so far trying different medicines to help me feel better to no avail. It's a monopoly. The industry waters down the meds so we need it longer. That's my opinion.
Only thing I can recommend for a cough is for you to try this new one called TUKOL. They sell it at Walgreens.

CVS seems to have it. I think the stores are leaning toward the new formula 44 products.
