I have come to the end of my sixth week on lexapro. 10mg the entire time. I have not had one ioda of relief from the severe depression and extreme anxiety I started taking it for. Is it time to move on? My psychiatrist is clear that she thinks it is not going to work and wants me to start tapering down. I just wanted it to work so bad. Could it still show it's head for the first time this far into taking it?
Ending my 6th week and haven't had any positives?

Hi, William!
When you're maxed out at 20mg you really should be seeing at least some improvements but it can take 6-8 weeks to feel the full effect of the medication. Since you're taking the 10mg dose you might want to ask your doctor if an increase might be advisable before switching to another medication. Everybody responds differently to this type of drug so there's no set dose for every person.
Still, if your doctor has determined that Lexapro isn't for you you may have to switch to something else. It's frustrating, but many people commonly have to try more than one medication to find the one most effective for them.
There are several other good options so try to stay positive. You will feel better! I hope this happens quickly for you.
