I am also on 150 venlafaxine and 50 of trazodone. Only on the 6th week of venlafaxine and maybe 4 weeks on the trazodone, but I wake up very jittery. Wondering if it's the trazodone. Has anybody else experienced this? I do sleep on the trazodone but wake up in the middle of the night. Any comments would be appreciated.
I was also on 150 Venlafaxine and 50 of trazodone and woke up jittery too! My psych didn't think it was the trazodone, but I've been on venlafaxine before and never had the jitters. I am now off of the trazodone for 3 days and still have the jitters and can't sleep. Has anybody else had this problem and how long does it take for the jitters to go away!?
Yes sir for many years im on 75 of Effexor, used to be 225 and 200mg is trazodone. Never had any problems.
I also take trazodone 300mg and 75 mg Effexor. I have been on these drugs for about 5 years. I don’t really have any side effects. Now my pharmacy is saying they can’t get any trazodone that’s all I need.
I have been taking venlafaxine 100mg every morning and trazodone 100 mg at bedtime for well over 5 -10 yrs with absolutely no side effects
This is a few years late but I have been on Trazodone for many years (150 mg). It was a miracle drug to cure my insomnia. I was recently put on Effexor XR (75mg). Lately it has been so difficult for me to wake in the mornings. I feel light headed and dizzy all day. I'm wondering if this is a side effect of combining the two drugs. Any others feel this way? I am going to cut down on trazodone and see if that helps but I get anxiety that I won't be able to fall asleep.
Hi, I know I'm a few years late on the response here... but I thought I'd chime in for anyone interested... I have been taking 112.5mg Effexor and 50mg trazadone for many years now with no side effects.
Hi there jerst. This is what I found on drugs.com:
Talk to your doctor before using traZODone together with venlafaxine. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Don't let this scare you. Call your pharmacist and talk to them about possible side effects. You might want to give your doc a call. I don't think he/she would have prescribed this combo unless they felt comfortable about it. Check out this link.

Take care and I hope your find your answer. There's a lot of info on this med. I'm more at ease with info from drugs.com.

Thank you for your comments..I hope I am not taking a high enough dose of effexor and trazodone to cause serontonin syndrome..but it is good of you to warn me about this
My psych doc was upset that I was only taking 37.5 mg XR of Effexor..said it was a placebo effect..
..talked to a pharmacist at CVS where I get my meds filled..she said she had other customers/patients on this dose..and what was important was how I felt
disclamer: I am a pharmacy tech..have worked at a level 2 trauma center for over 8 years..I think pharmacists rock! The doc was like how dare you not up your dose to 150mg daily
Pickles503 that was very interesting info. I am on venlafaxine 150mg and was on 100mg of trazodone I knew none of this. I finally told my psch dr to stop writing script for only took sometimes. When took it hit me hard n fast stumbled dwn hallway to bedrm as if I was drunk and i only slept for 4 1/2 hrs real good then awake and restless. So stopped taking. Im a light sleeper I like being like that. I still only sleep 4-5 hrs if I'm lucky. The venlafaxine I take at night cause not able to go to wrk and function so my psch dr said take at nite.
the only thing with trazadone is you become so tolerant so quick... so i would go up on it slow. I mean one day it works, then one day its like taking nothing. Nd be careful you remember to eat with Effexor because it is a stimulating anti-depressent that may be the reason u cant sleep.
