I always have to remember to eat at least 30min before taking trazodone. If I don't eat, I get very dizzy and my heart starts beating out of my chest, definitely have to lay down. But don't forget that body mass and size as well as dosage will affect each person differently. I have been off and on trazodone for 10 yrs. I've worked my way up from 50mg to 100mg. Hope that helps.
Hi, ladyfox!
Here are some quotes from the literature:
"Take trazodone after a meal or a snack."
"Eating with the medication slows down the absorption of the drug because the stomach and intestines are also working to break down the food consumed. This delay prevents too much of the drug from being absorbed all at once."
Since it says after a meal or snack I would guess that a light snack would be sufficient if you can't take it after a full meal. You might want to ask your pharmacist for more information.
Best regards and I hope this helps.
Thank you Wildcat. I think I just learned something important, can't wait to try it out. You see, Trazodone is working TOO fast in my case, bull-blown in half-hour and then drops off in its effect much too soon to still work. I have been taking it on an empty stomach and am now "dying" to try it tonight with some food in me. Thanks again and I hope to let you and the group know what happened!
