After drinking alcohol my husband is super aggressive & emotional. He suffers from bipolar and anxiety. He’s on Buspirone and Lamictal. Should we double the dose the next day to avoid this awful consequence?
Drinking and on Buspar, lamotrigine?

That’s a good question. I cannot speak for the Lamictal, but I’ve noticed over the years, alcohol and my Buspar dose used to get me sometimes more emotional than I usually was. My doctor explained to me that increasing the dose would likely increase the emotional effects I was having. In my case, I decided to quit drinking. Alcohol and mind altering medications do not mix well. Your husband’s experience may vary, but I would not increase any dosages. These medications are maintenance meds, not rescue meds. I hope this helps, good luck to you.
Thank you. I appreciate your answer. I read a few articles stating that even a sip of alcohol could change his brain chemistry. I read about this after quite a few episodes. The pattern is consistent. He drinks, and a day later, he’s quite aggressive. Sometimes emotional, but almost having psychosis.
I completely agree with everything Alpha said... I take this combination along with a couple of other psych medications and had similar experiences.
Rather than risk my mental health I stopped drinking. It was the logical choice for me.
Best regards and good luck to you both.
