I have been taking 200mg of sertraline for a few years now, and I know you are not suppose to drink alcohol when taking antidepressants, in the past on the odd occasion I have gone out binge drinking, the next day and sometimes for weeks later I feel depressed all over again and become an emotional wreck, it’s like I am starting all over again with the meds, can anyone help with this please.
Does drinking alcohol lesson the effects of sertraline ?

I really think it does. If I drink I feel down and really moody. I also really ache.
I’m trying no alcohol alternatives.
Feel like I’m having a drink with no effects .
Hi, Monty!
Yes, sertraline is an antidepressant and alcohol is a strong depressant.
"Drinking can prevent antidepressant medications from working correctly. Drinking can make depression symptoms more severe and harder to treat. Although alcohol can improve mood in the short term, the risk of creating long-term problems is a risk that people on antidepressants should avoid taking."
Many people can handle an occasional beer or wine but it's best to avoid alcohol altogether and binge drinking with an antidepressant can also be very dangerous.
"Using sertraline together with ethanol may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with sertraline. Do not use more than the recommended dose of sertraline, and avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in potentially hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination ."
