Was taking 1mg Xanax twice a day but for insurance purposes my doctor changed me to 1 mg Ativan twice a day. Would that account for my symptoms of withdrawal for the past 3 weeks? Am I only getting half of what I was used to taking?
What dosage of Ativan would equal 1mg Xanax?

You would need 2mg to equal 1mg of Xanax. I have both. I am on 4mg of Xanax at bedtime (have been for over 10 years but it's the max dosage for this state per day) I have 10mg Valium and they do NOTHING for me. So please know there's a huge difference in Xanax, Valium etc. each person responds differently. Many of my meds aren't covered by insurance so not Knowing what state you are in, try GoodRX for coupons If you decide to stay on Xanax or pay cash. Those drugs in generic are not too expensive. Did you ask your dr to ask the insurer to override ? Or write for generic etc?
Yes,my doctor did ask for an exception but the insurance company said I would have to try lorazepam (Ativan) to see if that worked. I don't know why. Anyway my doctor for some reason gave me the same dosage as my alprazolam (Xanax).I am now into my fourth week and just beginning to feel halfway human again. I don't know what he was thinking. I was nauseous, had flu-like symptoms, numbness in my hands and feet, and my mouth was numb and couldn't taste anything. It has been horrible. I am still upset that my doctor was not more diligent in his handling of the switch of medications.
