I am taking sertraline 50mg for depression. I am in a different country and can only get Zoloft. I am wary of taking a different drug in a different box etc. Are they the same 100%? Thank you.
Difference between Zoloft and sertraline 50mg. Are they exactly the same drug?

Hi, Donkey!
As the others have said, sertraline is the active ingredient in Zoloft. The only difference may be in the inert ingredients (binders, fillers, coloring agents) and unless you're allergic or sensitive to them it's very unlikely that you would have any side effects. If you tolerate the sertraline well you shouldn't have any problem switching to the name brand Zoloft. In fact, some people claim the brand name works better.
Shouldn't read "as the other has said"? LOL
OOPS!!! HaHa!
Thanks WildcatVet, I have 9 sertraline 50mg tablets left and a new box of Zoloft. I think I might try the Zoloft in the morning.
Good for you! Let us know how it goes, okay?
Hi WildcatVet, Super news, it's morning now, and just through habit, I took the Sertraline pill. But hey my head was like 95% clearer this morning as if someone had put a pin in and burst the bubble and the cloud of brain fog is lifted and almost gone. Wow !!! 107 days alcohol-free and day 27 on Sertraline. I'm so excited. I hope it continues, more soon :) Have a nice Day.
Congrats on your sobriety! Keep up the good work... I'm 10 years in.
Let us know how you do on your medication, okay?
Sertraline is the active ingredient in Zoloft and also Sertraline is the Generic form of Zoloft, Zoloft is the brand name.

Generic medicines work the same as brand-name medicines
A generic medicine works in the same way and provides the same clinical benefit as its brand-name version. This standard applies to all FDA-approved generic medicines. A generic medicine is the same as a brand-name medicine in dosage, safety, effectiveness, strength, stability, and quality, as well as in the way it is taken and should be used.
