Macrobid is in macrocrystal form as opposed to microcrystals. The larger crystal form takes longer to be absorbed and excreted thus the twice daily as opposed to 4 times daily dosing!
Macrobid is a longer acting time release formula taken twice a day and macrodantin is the regular immediate release and needs to be taken more often-usually 4 times a day. They are both nitrofurantoin.
the only difference is how they release.
Just the name.
