Drugs are in generic classes. Oxycodone is a generic class of drugs. Diazepam is another generic drug class. Within generic drug classes there are Brand names, in which a company that makes drugs for the market, assigns to the specific generic drug they are making. One example is Percocet, which is the Purdue pharmaceutical company Brand name for Oxycodone generic drug class. Diazepam is another drug class, which is a part of the Benzodiazepine drug group. Another drug class in Benzodiazepines is alprazolam (brand name Xanax) and so on. Valium was the Brand name that the Roche Pharmaceutical company assigned to their brand of the generic drug class diazepam.
The generic for Valium is Diazepam.
