A friend's doc told her that she could cut WB SR in half. I called my pharmacy & the pharmacist said that I could (even though the bottle says not to crush or chew). Today I spoke to a diff pharmacist at the same pharmacy & he said not to split the pill. Some posts say when an SR version is cut in half that it becomes Instant Release, but some say do not do it. This morning I did cut my pill in half & took it. I think that I will not do it again. I also took 10 mg Celexa. I don't understand why some docs & pharmacists say that the SR version can be cut in half. Thanks.
Has anybody cut a Wellbutrin SR 150 in half?

Unfortunately, there is nothing below 100mg in bupropion SR and 150mg in XL. My psychiatrist also suggested to try cutting it in half (even in quarters!). He warned me that pharmacists would not like this. His main concern was that in doing so, the dosage would be uneven from day to day. The other option is to go to a compounding pharmacy. They can dilute bupropion to whatever concentration you need, and you take it in liquid form. A bit more of a pain and slightly more expensive, but a viable option for those who need lower doses.
My psychiatrist said you can cut the Bupropion 150xl in half right before taking. You have to throw away the other half because oxygen will make it not as effective. I am currently coming off of bupropion this way. Half for two weeks then a half every other day for a week.
I just looked at the pills there is no score on the timed release at all so no it is not to be broken but again if you want have the doctor order you the regular bupropion 75mg and you can take 1 or 2 tablets daily the 75mg last about 6 hours in system and see if you can get by with that if not take one in the morning when you get up and one at about 1 or 2 in the afternoon which well last until evening that would equal one of the SR 150MG but you can go on it slower and get through any side effects.
wanabe that is because on some timed release tablets they have a score kind of deep those you can break but if there is no line going acrossed the pill where it is meant to be broke it's okay but otherwise you never break a sr. or xl because it screws up the slow release system so no matter what anyone says if it does not have a breaking point in the middle of the pill it is not meant to be broken crushed dissolved or chewed period. if you want to take less just have the doctor order the regular type of Wellbutrin and take it at the time of day EVERY DAY about the same time so you can reach a blood level of it. Have a good Monday
Thanks Chuck. Happy Monday to you. The 2nd pharmacist that I spoke to went to the bottle of the SR pill that I was taking & said exactly what u said that it cannot be broken since it isn't scored. I don't know why the 1st pharmacist didn't know that. Also, the pharmacist said that I could cut my 1 mg K-pin in half even though it isn't scored (and it's not time release).
Wannb; Yes that pharmacist is correct the Clonazepam is not timed release so it makes no difference. It's easy enough with that darn Wellbutrin because it has so many types I remember working still and you would have to look real close to make sure you had the right one Hang in there.
Thanks Chuck. You really know this stuff.
Thank you so much for all your answers to my questions. The site really helps me out especially @Chuck1957
