I started citalopram 5 days ago for GAD and my anxiety has got worse I have been getting very bad sweats too and tingling in my hands Just wanted to know how long these side effects will last and how long before it starts working I take 20mg in the morning Have also been given Lanzoprasole because acid reflux could be causing lump in throat feeling as anxiety causes your stomach to produce excessive acid so hopefully between the two it does the trick and I don't have to wait too long for my anxiety to get better and get back to normality
Can citalopram help feeling of lump in throat?

So I think you have several issues occurring at the same time. Citalopram is a great drug for GAD. Remember this antidepressant belongs to a group of drugs called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Initially they were for treating depression. Later research found they could treat anxiety, GAD, panic d/o, etc. And remember it usually takes awhile for many of these drugs to be effective. Some individuals can feel the effects within a week and for others it may take two-three weeks or more. Each person is different. So, I would suggest to take it as prescribed and try to be patient. It appears you also have acid reflux which may be causing your "lump in throat" Anxiety can really mess up my whole body and mind. The mind affects the bodily symptoms and the bodily symptoms often affect the mind. I am a strong believer that our minds have the power to harm or heal. So be aware of what messages you are telling yourself. If you are really concerned about your bad sweats and tingling in your hands, I'd touch base with your doc just to let him/her know. It may be a side-effect of the citalopram or it may be due to your anxiety. When I get really anxious I find a few things that have helped me. I have two very good friends who are able to listen to me w/o ever trying to "fix" me or my issues. They are a great sounding board. I also am engaged in exercise, walking, working out at the Y or riding my bike. Just getting outdoors for a short period of time can make a difference. I also practice mindfulness meditation and there are many apps available that guide you through the meditation. Anxiety can be a hard nut crack but there are many different ways to help manage symptoms. Find what works for you. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
