I have been taking 150mg of wellbutrin for about 1 1/2 years. In that time my creatinine increased from 2.2 to 3.6. All this started due to lithium toxicity about 15 years ago. I started taking depakote then instead.

Hi tnreddog. Looking at another information site, this is part of the information I found to help to answer your question: ~~~ VIOLENT OR PHYSICALLY DANGEROUS SIDE EFFECTS:Acute Renal Failure - The kidneys stop excreting waste products properly, leading to rapid poisoning (toxicity) in the body. (Wellbutrin side effects)~~~
Now, you have to realize that, if even ONE person in the controlled group (when side effect studies are done on a medication), shows certain side effects, these have to be listed in the side effects literature for wellbutrin. Many people here in these support groups take wellbutrin successfully, with very minute side effects. If you already have chronic kidney disease, you need to let your doctor know before you start taking any medication. He will adjust the dosage, based on what other meds you're taking and what kind of side effects you are willing to put up with. Usually though, any side effects from wellbutrin will clear up in a few weeks. You didn't say whether or not you're already taking it, or what dosage either. Side effects are often dose-related. But if you're already taking it, and it isn't giving you symptoms like that, then you won't need to worry about it happening to you. Hope I've answered your concerns.
As far as talking about kidneys and ADs... the whole time that I took effexor, I had chronic pain in my sides where my kidneys are. It hurt every day. As soon as I quit taking it, the pain went away ~~ that was my main reason for quitting that med! But one of my best friend takes effexor, and never experienced that side effect with it. And, I don't have that problem with my wellbutrin.
By the way, the next time you post a question, before you submit it, click underneath your response where it says, "starting a conversation", rather than clicking on a direct answer, so that others here can all put their two cents in by having a conversation about your concerns.
Hope it all works out for you.
I never had any signs of kidney problems, I have cronic kidney disease. No one of my bro. Or sister, mom or dad has it.
Where did you get your information? "You didn't say whether or not you're already taking it, or what dosage either." The person stated they are taking 150mg of Wellbutrin.
No symptoms does not mean the person should not worry. Many people have kidney failure without symptoms.
Next time cite your sources because it sound like crap information.
