Is your med Alendronate and Cholecalciferol? If yes, then the recommended dose of alendronate and cholecalciferol for most people with osteoporosis is 70 mg/5600 IU once weekly. However, the doc may instead recommend a dose with less vitamin D (alendronate and cholecalciferol 70 mg/2800 IU) once weekly.
However, you must seek an second opinion if you seem that the prescribed dose is too high.
Take care, be safe & well, please.
Thank you for your answer :)
It is just colecalciferol on the label and says 20,000 units next to it, dosage instructions 2 to be taken daily for 10 days and then one per week until course is finished ( total I have is 32). I did ring a pharmacist for a second opinion and she said that it has been known to be prescribed as per my dosage. I just got worried as in comparison to most others I found on internet, I seem to be on a very high dosage!
I just asked for the level of deficiency in blood test and was told it was 25, but don't understand what that means in terms of how badly deficient in vitamin d I am. The dosage comparison alarmed me as people on internet that are severely low in vitamin d, seemed to be on a much lower dosage than me, hence I freaked out!
Most welcome, take care, please.
75 to 250 is sufficient. 25-75 is insufficient, and <25 is deficient. I've just been tested at 15 and put on 2 x Cholecalciferol per week - so it sounds like you are on a very high dosage to me! Ive been researching for like - two days, so Im not exactly a font of knowledge!
Hello every one, the doctor just describe the same dose for me, and I think its too high as well. can you please tell me as you have been through this before.
As I had the same things that's really worried me because I have to take 3 times a day for 5 days or 5 times a day for 3 days with 20.000units of vitamin D and I have 2 months old baby and breast fed
My doctor told me to take 3 a day for 5 days , I felt better in most areas skin, anxiety, lethargy... no ill side affects so must be safe
Everyone should remember that we are different and our medical conditions may seem similar, however our own chemical and physical conditions can call for a different dosage of vitamins, or medication. Always seek second opinions and follow professional advices, unless you truly believe otherwise, definitely do not trust online suggestions, or comments.
