I completely empathize with you and your frustration.
I will start by saying everyone reacts differently to medications, benefits, potential risks, side effects, interactions, etc..
Having said that I was on Lexapro (Escitalopram) for 1 year 20 mg, and in that year I was unable to orgasm at all, this is as Wildcat said a common side effect of antidepressants.
I do not want to be negative or put you down, just sharing my experience, as I said everyone reacts differently to medications and what comes with them.
Celexa (Citalopram) as you know belongs to the drug class of SSRIs so does Lexapro (Escitalopram), hopefully in your case you will overcome this side effect. I could not so after that year I discontinued Lexapro and 3 weeks later I was able to have a normal sexual life.
Hi, David!
The real answer is maybe. How long have you been on Celexa and at what dose? The lowest dose that is still therapeutic for you may help lessen or eliminate these side effects. You might also be looking at another medication like Wellbutrin, Viibryd, Trintellix, etc. that carry a lower risk. If it persists your doctor may be able to prescribe another medication to counteract the side effects.
"One of the simplest solutions for sexual dysfunction is to wait and see if your sexual side effects decrease. As a general rule, it can take weeks or even months for these side effects to go away. Patience is key when managing sexual side effects. It can take your body time to adjust to antidepressants.
The same is true of changing doses or switching brands. Work with your doctor to establish a timeline. You will need to work together to determine whether side effects gradually improve."
Be sure to talk with your doctor because this is common with many antidepressants and your doctor will be able to give you some professional advice.
Best regards and best of luck to you. I hope this information may be helpful.
