I'm just finishing up week 3 and I've not noticed anything. I'm sob anxious I can't eat or properly take care of my kids. My anxiety and depression is so bad after having my 2nd son 8 weeks ago. Will it get better?
Hi, Niccolla! I'm sorry that you're having such a rough time. The two problems with antidepressant/anxiolytics is that they take time to become fully effective and they may cause increased or new anxiety and depression as side effects:
"Common (1% to 10% of users): Abnormal dreams, depression, agitation, anxiety, apathy, impaired concentration, nervousness"
"Side effects have been reported to be transient. They are most common during the first 2 weeks of treatment and decrease in intensity and frequency with continued treatment. They generally do not lead to treatment cessation."
"Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve.
Citalopram (Celexa) | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness"
If your anxiety/depression is interfering with everyday life and you feel like you can't make it through the day taking care of two children let your doctor know. You don't mention what dosage you're taking but it may be a matter of increasing it to a more effective level. Also, your doctor may be able to prescribe medication that is fast acting to use in the interim until the Celexa kicks in.
Best regards and hopefully you'll be feeling better very soon.
