Can doxycycline hyclate be crushed and then added to applesauce?

It is best to take the doxycycline tablet whole. As it is it can be quite harsh on the esophageal lining and by crushing it you run the risk of having residue left in the esophagus, if you don't wash it down with lots and lots of water ... and this can cause very irritable/uncomfortable side effects.
