I'm currently taking the generic Escitalopram 20mg (1 1/2 week so far) with 2mg of Risperdal. Nothing's happening. I read some reviews that the brand Lexapro is more effective than the generic. Should I have gotten the brand instead of the generic? Is the brand better than the generic?
Is it better to take the brand Lexapro or the generic Escitalopram?

I was on brand name for over 10 years and had to switch per insurance. I thought nothing of it until I discovered the chronic headaches, dizziness, returned depression and extreme panack attacks were because of the generic. I was on generic for 5-6 months before I made the connection. I had to pay $145 for brand name which stinks, but I am already doing much much better in just 3 weeks back on brand name. Sucks they mess with out mental health just to make a few extra bucks off us. Good Luck all.
It takes 4 to 6 weeks for full effect, so try not to judge the generic yet until you give it the full start-up time.
I had equal success with both name brand Lexapro and generic escitalopram. Other people have better success with one or the other.
Don't change anything for 4 to 6 weeks or longer. Then you'll know if generic is successful and/or side effects or if you want to try name brand Lexapro if generic was not successsful or had bad side effects
They are about the same try celexa its way better
I started out on the Brand and had immediate good results. Later changing to the other generic versions each had bad reactions with me. On one generic my depression came back and on the other I had constant headaches. I believe in the brand Lexapro or cipralex (brand from Canada) . Maybe starting right out on the generic works differently.
The first generic I used was manufactured by Teva. With it my depression came back fast. Crying all the time. I hadn't expected it. Went back to bran Lexapro by Forest labs until they ran out then when my insurance said they would not cover brand without a $390 penalty for every 90 day supply I tried the Mylan generic and that one I just felt physically strange. Headaches and just not healthy. Went back to Lexapro from a Canadian pharmacy at $115 for 90 days. I went a few days without taking anything while I was busy with company and I think it must have been withdrawals I felt light headed and spacey but no other symptoms. I have put 25 lbs on with lexapro and would rather have nothing than the generic.
You've got to give it some time anti-depressants take a month to reach effective levels.
Hello empire5sb. It depends on the individual. Some people can not tolerate the generic version. A color or dye of a pill or capsule for example might make a person tolerant to the generic. It is how ones metabolism responds. Regards pledge
my mom takes generic Lexapro and it works great for her. I would try it first and see how it affects you. I have also known some other people who take the generic and it worked for them as well. hope this helps you
