Yes I have a bladder infection
This is what frustrates me about UTI treatments at health care providers - prescribing antibiotics without a urinalysis. I recently had an infection and was prescribed an antibiotic, the doctor did send away for a culture, however when the antibiotic failed to clear the infection I was prescribed a second antibiotic (which also failed) before finding out that the culture hadn't even been checked before the second antibiotic was prescribed - ridiculous.
See your doctor again, it is better to have a urine culture taken a few days after the current antibiotic has left your system (hopefully by this time it has been done and you're on the mend!), and if needed specifically ask which bacteria was found (if any) AND what antibiotic it is shown to be sensitive too.
I was also prescribed Norfloxacin despite a second urinalysis (by a different provider) showing the bacteria present was sensitive to penicillin - I actually had to request a penicillin based antibiotic. 5 weeks later the whole experience has left me with little faith in the health care systems available. The last sample I left was clear of bacteria after 7 days of Augmentin (Amox-Clav), though I'm now pursuing natural remedies in an effort to feel normal again after 4 relatively strong antibiotic treatments have left me feeling much less than 100% better 'down below'.
Pay attention to your body, do not assume that the professionals treating you have your best interests in mind. Do your own research to find a doctor you can trust and develop an ongoing health care relationship with, who you can believe will not just prescribe what the pharmaceutical companies are currently pushing. Good luck!
Can anyone let me know how long the symptoms stay? On my 5th day of Macrobid felt pretty good all day but tonight not so good. Should it be gone by now? Thanks I just have anxiety about this.
I usually get relief in a few days, but everyone might be different. But if you dont feel better after being on the Macrobid by the 7th day, i would call the doctor. It could be that you need a different antibiotic. I had chronic infections for 3 years, I would have one every month. After going from Urologists and infectious disease doctors, it was my Gyno doctor that finally helped me, I needed to to on Hormone Therapy, but I am probably older then you, and i am sure that is not the case for you. I hope you feel better!
Thanks so much! Day 5 and its been a long 5 days!
Thanks so much for all the advice. I am feeling better but still have some burning once and a while. I am concerned as they only gave me 7 days of Macrobid then told me to go to the office this coming Friday for a culture - I guess they never bothered to do a culture now I am on Macrobid. Do you know if you can do a culture while on this drug or do you have to wait for days after? I would think they would have done a culture ... thanks for your help and advice I just hope that it does not come back as soon as I stop the drug. Have had that happen a while ago...
Its better to do the culture without being on the drug to get an good reading. my doctor always takes a culture puts me on cipro then when the results come back sometimes he will have to switch me, but most the time Cipro is the right antibiotic for my URI. Hope you feel better!
Hi dbworried,
If that uncomfortable feeling and urgency are not gone, send someone to the pharmacy to buy Azo Standard, it works GREAT for UTI pain! I used to get these all the time, so I promise, they work great.
Azo Standard tablets will stain your lingerie so do take care, use a panty-liner if needed.

Thanks Guys I got some Macrobid and drinking the cranberry. Yes I have had these many times before but not for a while thank
heavens - I just did not remember the heavy feeling! I am looking for a new doc that was stupid. Thanks so much for getting back to me I was flipping out.
yes u have a bladder infection and it is nothing to put off, it spreads to your kidneys and can at times become fatal, no lie I have I.C. and have had plenty of them go to the emergency screw your dr , and tell them u have a bladder infection and it's bad. is your back starting to hurt where your kidneys r upper back on the sides if so go today , well go today anyway I wouldn't leave it any longer, you need to get the red pills pernium i think so to stop the burning and get on sulpha fast maybe something stronger
Sounds like UTI symptoms to me. Did your doc do a culture and sensitivity to be sure the bacteria infecting your bladder is sensitive to Macrobid? By the 4th day, you should be feeling some better. You may want to call the office and let them know that you are no better or if you can do so without a referral, go see a urologist. UTI's are miserably uncomfortable. You can get a drug OTC called AZO-Standard (generic is phenazopyridine hydrochloride) which is a bladder pain reliever and it will help stop some of the spasms (that is what you feel low down the pain and pressure is due to bladder spasms) and stop the burning but it turns your urine bright orange and it does stain if you get it on your clothes and it can stain the toilet bowl and seat too (if it gets on the seat) but to me it is worth it because it stops the burning pain. I have some in my desk drawer at all times just in case a UTI starts (I am a frequent flier-I get them all the time)
Thanks DzooBaby. I have got the AZO Tuesday and have been taking it. The burning has gotten better but I still feel bloated and uncomfortable with a heavy feeling when I walk around. I just do not know what the heavy feeling is. I called the office and they told me to come in next week and they would send for a culture. I took the home test a few minutes ago and it was not as purple but still some indication that its not cleared up yet. I feel better but am worried about that low pulling feeling - I am thinking that maybe things are just swollen ...
