Because your Blood Pressure lower as we sleep
Hi aquanaut,
You have gotten some great answers here.
If at all possible I would do it twice a day.
Once in the morning right after going to the bathroom. You wasn't to catch your resting BP.
I would do it next when you are at your stress time.
You want to see if your BP is related to stress or is it elevated even when getting up in the morning.
You don't need to do this close monitoring for more than a week.
It would also be good if you took your pulse at the same time.
This will give your doctor the big picture.
Good luck
:-)
Many factors will influence your blood pressure such as physical activity, anxiety or the time of day you take the reading.
There is no real best time to take a blood pressure reading but for an accurate picture of your blood pressure it is best measured at the same time each day.
Blood pressure is typically low in the morning and increases from afternoon to evening. It is lower in the summer and higher in the winter.
When you take a reading make sure you are relaxed and sitting comfortably. You should be at a comfortable temperature, no bathing, drinking alcohol or caffeine, smoking, exercising or eating for 30 minutes before a reading.
I was told by my pharmacist that the BP reading is higher in the morning, you should take it in the afternoon, and be sure not to drink any caffeine before you take it. So information can be confusing. I have "white coat syndrome", so my BP is always higher at the doctor's office because of anxiety as soon as I see the BP cuff!
According to Dr. Oz, do not take it when your bladder is full! I just read this on his web page. Also, Do not take it after you have had a caffeine drink such as coffee or a cola. This is more important than what time of day you take it.
