Why is it important to tell my doctor I have asthma before taking doxycycline?
Hello AllRedGurl, & welcome to the site. I take it you are reading the side efefcts & prescribing info on doxycycline. If you have an allergic reaction to it the problem may exerbate your asthma if you also have asthma. so yes it is important that your doctor is aware of all medical coditions & alleriges you have before taking a new med. I am alleric to many meds, but can safely take doxycycline for an antibiotic. some times it's a try & see if you have alleriges & asthma, but if you do you shojld also have an epi pen aound just in case. Each doctor that treats you should know if you have asthma, but the main reson for the info you are reading is an allerigc reaction to doxycycline is beathing problems. If you already have asthma, it will exerbte it to a point you could have your airways close up on you. Hope this answers your question..
