I'm taking 8mg Buprenorphine 2x's a day and Buspar 5mg 3 x's a day and I'm exhausted now. In the beginning I was just taking Buprenorphine and felt fine, then started Buspar later and felt fine. Actually I felt great, it gave me energy and my anxiety went down immediately. Now all of the sudden I am so tired I fall asleep sitting up watching t.v., and I'm having a hard time sleeping at night. Anyone else take these meds together?

The answer you were given below isn't the case for most people unless they are abusing one or the other drug! Please call your doctor and tell them what is going on. The person underneath that said all that scary stuff didn't read all of it, there are 2 sides and they copied the consumer side, but if you read the professional side those problems were found in studies where people were abusing suboxone, by shooting it up or taking more than directed!
I'm taking them both and I'm not overly tired I checked to see if they were both safe to take together and they are are you taking it at night
There is a MAJOR interaction between suboxone and buspirone. I had to stop taking them at the same time because it would literally make me feel high as a kite and I would be semiconscious drooling on my pillow. What worked for me is to not ever take them at the same time but to make sure there was at least 4 hours between each medication. That worked like a charm and I no longer have those side effects. I think the buspirone somehow messes with the naloxone in suboxone so nothing is blocked and you get the full effects and then some. That’s just my theory from my experience because I have never felt more impaired in my life than when I took those two medications at the same time. I hope this helps. Good luck
Mychoice; Don't know how long you have been on these 2 together, I have seen them used together several times but I would call your doctor and mention that it's come to your attention that there is a MAJOR DRUG INTERACTION BETWEEN TAKING THESE TWO TOGETHER and it was fine at first but now you are having trouble sleeping at night but you have to fight to stay awake during the day it could be just a dose adjustment could help you I have the copy of it here and well paste it. you read it And just double check with the doctor that he or she really wants you to take both. And make sure they know your having a real hard time sleeping at night . here is the Interaction.((( Interactions between your selected drugs
Major
buspirone buprenorphine
Applies to: BuSpar (buspirone), buprenorphine
Using buprenorphine together with other medications that cause central nervous system depression such as busPIRone can lead to serious side effects such as respiratory distress, coma, or even death. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Do not drink alcohol or self-medicate with these medications without your doctor's approval, and do not exceed the doses or frequency and duration of use prescribed by your doctor. Also, you should avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how these medications affect you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor)))) when ever its a MAJOR INTERACTION ITS GOOD TO CHECK WITH THE DOCTOR.But the reason is not what your having but you can never be to safe. It is possible with a dose adjustment you well be able to sleep better at night but make sure you mention it to the doctor. CALL THEM TODAY. hope this well help some please post what you are told to do if anything. Have a good day.
WOW, that is really scary I had no idea. The doctor that prescribed these meds to me also has me on Klonopin 1mg 2x's a day AND ambien 12.5 CR, which I know are also central nervous depressants, but I DIDN'T know that Buspar was too!! Now I'm scared to take it because I've also been having heart palpitations along with falling asleep throughout the day and not staying asleep at night. I was on Klonopin and ambien before and have been for many years. I started Buprenorophine 1-27-16 and added Buspar 2-22-16. I've already lowered my OWN dose of Buspar to 5mg 3 x's a day from 4x's a day because the doctor told me I could do that as needed. I'm now thinking of going down to just 2 x's a day. The point of adding Buspar was to phase out Klonopin, because I do not want to take benzo's anymore (including the ambien) so he gave it to me to replace those two meds when I'm ready.
Now I'm questioning why a Pysch doctor would give me all of these at once! Oh and side note, my primary doctor knows what I take and gave me Baclofen 10mg 3 x's a day too! But I can't even take that at all, I practically lapse into a coma! I only weigh 140lbs I'm 5'4, I'm not a big person but they seem to think I can handle all this. (I have a back injury, PTSD, and major anxiety disorder so that's why I have these meds) Before the Buprenorophine I was taking Norco 10 mg 4 x's a day for 15 years, but in the early years it was 6-8 x's a day. Thank you for your advice and time, I really appreciate your help!
Mychoice; No problem at all, But with what you are saying you still should give your doctor a call Just to make sure he or she is aware of the Interaction. Also remember that the Buspar is best to take on a regular basis it really does not work that great if you just take it when the anxiety kicks in you kind of need a blood level in you for it to work the best.
Thanks for checking back in on me! I lowered my dose to 2 x's a day after we talked an I called my doctor. He said I should absolutely do that and see how I feel. It's much better now! I'm not so tired all day anymore and I've only woken up once each night but was able to go back to sleep easily and that was also a big change. So thank you for your advice, it worked :) I take it when I wake up and again at 5pm and that seems to work, while keeping it in my system and not just as needed like you said. Thanks again for taking the time to help me, especially with all that you're dealing with. But it sounds like you beat it and are in remission, so you're a tough guy! I hope you're feeling better.
More Thank you glad you found us here,And that between me and your doctor things are looking better keep that chin up and feel free to come back anytime you need. Thanks for thinking of me too it is not easy but we are getting there.
