I took Celexa 20mg in 2012 for about 6 months with no issue. In 2019 I went on 10mg of Lexapro. I didn’t have any side effects until the third week. I was watching a movie when suddenly I felt waves of anxiety, which was soon followed by a wave of intense burning all over my skin. The burning was similar to standing too close to a fire. It came and went in about 1 minute. This sensation would happen about once a month for a year and then only come with a dose change either up or down. This side effect would start with a feeling of anxiety every time and then the heat would come. I’m so curious to know if anyone else experienced this? I haven’t found anyone else yet.
I also want to add that it wasn’t caused by me being nervous. The anxiety prior to this burning would occur at times I was calm and content like watching a movie or gardening, it definitely a side effect of the medication.

Hi, Jodie! Both increased anxiety and paresthesia are known side effects of Lexapro (escitalopram) that commonly affect about 1 - 10% if users. Paresthesia is a burning or itching feeling of the skin. What's unique is that yours occur briefly whereas for most people they can last about two weeks or so. They usually occur immediately after the initial doses or dosage adjustments. If it occurs only occasionally I wouldn't worry too much about it but you'd be wise to be sure your doctor is aware of these side effects. Regards, Wildcat
