I was on Citalopram 40mg for 2 years and gained a total of 40 lbs. My doctor switched me to wellbutrin xl 150 mg but I saw no difference in my weight so she just upped my dose to 300mg. It has worked wonders with my anxiety though, as did the citalopram, but the weight gain and uncontrolled hunger was making me depressed. Please help :-(

How is it going for you? I am a big fan of Wellbutrin, and I take 300mg every morning. My doctor prescribed it to me to balance out the sexual side effects and weight gain of Zoloft. It worked. I was off the meds for about a year. When I went back on, initially it was just Wellbutrin. My appetite was gone and my sex drive increased tremendously!! I am taking it with Viibryd now. Appetite normal, normal sex drive. I wish I didn't need the anti-anxiety meds because I LOVE Wellbutrin's side effects. However, it "plays well" with those drugs since it counteracts the bad side effects (no weight gain!), at least for me. I love that my psychiatrist cares about treating all of me, not just the anxiety. Many doctors just want patients to deal with the side effects on their own. Hope this was helpful, and I'd love to hear how the drug is affecting you.

I started taking bupropion about 5 week in notice weight loss , but notice anxiety have not change, no drive for sex and cant keep it up to long, will continue until I don't see no changes , very depress because my sex drive out temporary

i love talking the medication because it is making me lose the weight i want but the only down fall that i have is i have major headaches and my sex drives decreased to where i can care less about it and it drives my husband crazy lol but other than that it has help me with my depression . i started off with 150mg and she just put me on 300mg and its alot better

I agree some doctors treat for anxiety and depression only. But I’m in a same situation my doctor cares about my health completely and that’s why she prescribed Wellbutrin 300 mg and its been working really good so far

I personally did not lose or gain significant weight during the years I took Wellbutrin. My weight was a bit high, but pretty stable. Hope you find the answers you need:

I just read the article, thank you so much! I'm gonna see if my insurance covers the Wellbutrin, I don't want it for weight loss, I just want a pill that will help with my panic attacks and anxiety without making me gain a substantial amount of weight. It's a difficult struggle to go through what we go through, but its nice to know I'm not alone in this, and its also comforting to know that there are good people out there that understand how it feels :-)

As a professional I never prescribe Wellbutrin or it's generic form buproprion for anxiety or panic attacks as it can make the condition increase greatly. The medication may seem like it helps at first but in the long run it is not an acceptable treatment for anxiety with panic attacks! bupropion has been founded to exacerbate anxiety (make worse in case you were unsure of what it meant.
