I have been taking Zoloft for 3 months. After 1 month, I started bloating and burping. The bloating has continued and the burping has gotten progressively worse. I burp continuously for 12 plus hours every day. It is exhausting. I can't sleep because I can't lie down, even with the head of the bed raised.
Is anyone else experiencing incessant burping from Zoloft?

I started taking sertraline (Zoloft) and felt much better taking them, however the burping was horrendous, went on and on all day, put me of eating food as I dreaded it getting worse, as it was after I ate something .. I stopped the tablet but still suffered from burping for 6 months, I still am, it’s not as bad as it was ( I do suffer with acid now, after I eat something I can taste the last thing I ate when I burp, like food repeating, but it’s after everything I eat, very unpleasant and exhausting, and concerning, and not good for my anxiety, the tablets did benefit me, but I won’t take them in case it worsens again,
Hope this helps someone else, but I’m still bothered with symptoms 6 months later, and I haven’t took the tablets for months.
Dear Annie,
I have the same problems even though I stopped taking sertraline 1 year ago... I wonder if you've noticed any improvement in your symptoms?
Hello! Uncommon, but it has been reported as a potential side effect. Side effects usually resolve within a few days to a week or two so this may be a temporary effect of your dosage increase:
"Uncommon (0.1% to 1% of users): Dysphagia, ERUCTATION"
Have you consulted with your doctor for professional advice?

I am getting ready to call my doctor if this problem doesn't stop.
My doctor raised my dose from 50 mg to 100 mg. Now I am constantly burping. I am glad I am not the only one. This is getting annoying.
I have the same problem with burping, started taking Zoloft about 2 months??
My mother had the same reaction from Zoloft. They changed her to Effexor. They are both SSRI"s
I hope you find some relief. Packard2046-
Thank you. I hope your mom is ok now
That is way to severe of a side effect to put up with that long. You should have switched a while back. I hope you found something that works. It's unfortunate that no one can tell which was is going to work and give few side effects. Don't ever let anyone tell you to keep taking something that is making you sick, even for more than 10 days. This 6 weeks or nothing rule with antidepressants is simply a crock.
Thank you for your response Johnny555. I am in agreement. I hope you are well.
6-8 weeks is generally how long it takes for the medication to become effective and has nothing to do with side effects.
You should ALWAYS report side effects to your DOCTOR especially if they persist for more than two weeks.
Call your doctors.
