... work long term? If so, do increased doses help calm nervous/anxiety behaviors?
My mother is 90 and in assisted living. She has a lot of short-term memory problems now along with anxiety. Early-on dementia/sundowning as well. She has escaped the facility a couple of times already saying he was going back to her 'home'. Many times she will say that she was 'just dropped off there today and needs someone to pick her up and take her home'. The staff at the facility want to move her to the memory care side of the facility (at double the cost to us). Her doctor recently adjusted her meds and put her on the BuSpar and Aricept prescribed together. How long does it take to start working, if it will help at all in this situation? Opinions?

Hello Jim, BuSpar take at least 2 weeks to start working. But it may take a little while to be effective, because it has a short half life(2-3hrs). Therefore, it’ll take up to 4 weeks for full effect. Some people do have some trouble with it but it worked out well for my anxiety symptoms. I take 20mg/a day. Aricept It may take several days or even weeks for benefits to show. Aricept is used to treat mild to moderate dementia.
