... higher than before Xarelto? I am a type II diabetic but am now taking insulin. Since I started Xarelto (about a month ago), I find that my blood sugar levels are far higher than before Xarelto, even though I have increased my insulin by three times the usual amount and still can't bring it down much. Anyone else here have that sort of problem?
If there is anyone with diabetes taking Xarelto, do you find that your blood sugar levels are much?

I had recently had to start taking Xarelto for clotting issues and in my entire life have never had an issue with my glucose levels. Now my doctor is telling me I am "pre diabetic" with the latest blood test.
I am glad I thought to do a search for "Xarelto and blood glucose" as it lead me here and gave me the resolve to ask my doctor for an alternative even though I think I am limited there by insurance. I don't need another health problem to be caused by this I have enough already.
Yes, I have noticed a spike. Never have I had a 256 reading. Upsetting to say the least.
My husband has been on Xarelto since Oct. last year. We have noticed that his once controlled diabetes has took a spike hike from 200 to over 300... Dr has tried him on several diabetes meds with no luck... Have tried changing other meds he takes but still no help. Just seen this sight tonight. Going to call Dr. in the morning to see about changing his med.
I started xarelto 5 months ago and my blood sugars increased from below 90 to 110 fasting. I am considering changing to another kind.
I started with Xarelto 20 mg about 2 months. At first my sugar increased 25-30 points but after using it for this period, it has gone back to good levels...
I have been on Xeralto several.months now and have noticed no blood sugar elevations. My blood sugar averages right now are 94 for a 30 day average.
I started Xrelto in October 2015 at a dosage of 15 mg twice a day for 21 days I then had a knee replaced and was asked after surgery to continue my Xrelto to once per day ... My primary Doctor then changed my dosage to 20 mg one time per day... at the beginning of December
Now it is the third week in Jan. 2016
I had some blood work done for my Hematologist and yester my Blood glucose was 425 so they called me today
For a recheck and it was 442 kind of alarming and explains why I haven't been feeling right... not sure what to do?
Yes, I am having the same problem as you!
I am Type II diabetic and my numbers were running between 90 and 110 however since starting Xarelto my numbers have been extremely high running between low 200 to a high of 319.
me too. I injured my leg in late April. A blood clot developed so I was put on Xarelto. My numbers have been increasing since mid to late May. I used to have 110 to 120 in the mornings and now 194, 210, 253 169. I'm back to exercising again, but that has had minimal affect. I think it is the Xarelto. I did not have this reaction when taking Warfarin a year ago after a traumatic leg injury. Spoke with a pharmacist this morning, but was told nothing indicates that Xarelto will cause this, but I'm betting that Xarelto was never tested on typeII's; if any diabetics. I'm about ready to just stop taking it. Mary
The FDA has a website that allows you to report any side effects that are not included now in the description of the drug. If enough people write with the same side effects, they will go back to the pharmaceutical company and request that they test for it. I can't remember what the address of the website is, but I did write and I wish any other people would, too. There is a place on their site that is set up for you to write. Please do this, as it may help.
I did that this morning. Go to FDA and their website will come up. There is a form to fill out online, but you will need to print it and mail in unless you find another site that is just online response. Going to see my primary and will probably go on Warfarin. I used that before and did not have any glucose issues. In addition, for those diabetics who need to use an anticoagulant, my doctors including a hemotologist said to disregard the info on foods not to eat. An experienced technician will adjust for eating a healthy diet tht includes green veggies. Mary
I started taking Xarelto 7 months ago after being diagnosed with bloodclots in both lungs. At first I didn’t see any problem except with head aches, but after taking it for a month, I beginning noticing that I was craving sweets. I have been careful about not eating high glycemic foods, but the craving is almost too much. I have been having increasing problems with head aches, neck and shoulder pain, stomach hurting, nausea, extreme fatigue and forgetfulness, This morning my blood sugar was 136. I have never had hyperglycemia, but I will definitely not consume grains anymore. I don’t normally eat bread but yesterday, I had a peanut butter sandwich and banana on multi-grain bread. I guess perhaps that could have triggered it, but it leaves me wondering about the terrible worthless feeling I am having. Any advice?
I have had terrible aches and pains from the small of my back down to the backs of my knees, so bad that I find it very difficult to walk. Pain is mentioned in the drug description, though. My doctor changed me over to Eliquis but I can't find any difference in the side effects.
I was on xarelto for about a week. Blood sugar spiked to near 600 and i am just now getting under 300. I was in the low 100's before xarelto. Had to stop taking it as it made me feel terrible. Even with 12 units of novalin R per hour I still stayed in the 400's. Going to the FDA link now.
I am a type ll diabetic and started on Xarelto Feb '13 for a clot in my leg. Before that my numbers were in the 120's for years and I could easily control them if necessary. Lately(I'm not sure when) they have gone as high as 210 down to an average of 167 but not below. My stress seems to be much higher and I have definite fatigue and a huge need for naps. Everyone writing in seems to have had the same side effects. I told me cariologist that I want to go on warfarin and have changed to that now. My pains are almost gone now and my sugars are nearing normal. I wonder that big pharma doesn't test for these things.
I had wild swings in blood glucose levels far higher than I have ever experienced, and with radical shifts in levels over very short time intervals. I suggest that people with blood glucose issues monitor things very closely when taking Xarelto to make sure you do not experience dangerous changes in blood glucose levels. I am sure I am far more extreme in this than most patients because of multiple other issues. I consider myself fortunate to have survived trying this medication. I am sure this will not happen with the vast majority of people but in my opinion there is not adequate concern about the relative safety of this drug when people initially begin treatment with it. To some extent there are "acceptable risks" and had I died I'm sure my death would have put me in that category. I absolutely did not want to try this drug and I personally did not consider it worth the risk.
One doctor kept saying to me it could change my life and I kept saying it could end my life. With blood glucose levels of 499 after taking a dose, followed by levels that were 365 fifteen minutes after the 499 level and 285 fifteen minutes after the 365 level and neurological symptoms that continued for a few days, I think I am fortunate to have survived this.
Wow, these comments are interesting.. i have never had any diabetic issues and since taking xarelto, i now have to take metformin because i have developed insulin resistance. I am athletic and do not have any history of diabetes or pre-diabetes..
I contacted Xarelto website and was advised the information on effect on people with Diabetes is mentioned in the Ad. I have not seen it nor read on it. This medication Xarelto effected my blood sugars after on it about one month. I have called the Janssen Pharmaceutical company and reported this. I do not want this medication to complicate issues with high blood sugar levels which Xarelto would be responsible. I called Grant & Eisenhofer PA attorneys 1-888-207-0382 to see how many other people are calling on this same issue. I was the third person so far. Contact FDA 1-800-332-1088 or
http://www.fda.gov/medwatch to report this as well. My doctor is to advise me as medication alternative that does not cause this same problem. Waiting to hear from him now. Please report this to Xarelto, Janssen, FDA and any other site to get this handled.
I have been taking Xerelto just 6 days and My sugar has gone from 110 -116 to 145 this morning. I haven't eaten anything to do this. I believe it is causing me problems with my type II.
I am also having the same problems. My sugar levels are in the 300s. It does not have to do with food. i have checked. I certainly have to blame Xarelto. Too bad becaise otherwise I feel good. I will also have to stop taking it since it may do more damage than good.
mine have been in control until 12 days into xarelto they are now 149 ,156,169 and I take tradjenta 5mg and glipizide 10mg and 46 units of lantus so I don't know whats up,going to call cardiologist Monday morning coumiden ,limited the greens I could eat I have a fib,now im worried, there were 120 or less
I have been taking Xarelto for about 4 months .Since taking Xarelto i have been diagnosed as having pre diabetes. I do experience pain in my neck and shoulders as well as my legs too.I plan on going to the website and complain about these side effects too.
I commented earlier, but want to share... After contacting my dr with concerns over the increased glucose readings she agreed to put me on warfarin. I prefer the slight inconvenience of testing for warfarin levels to chasing glucose numbers without success. I followed advice of a hematologist for dietary info and was told that I could continue eating my garden salads and other leafy greens. The eating greens was taken into account when determining how much warfarin to take. Got normal glucose readings within a week.
