I (35yrs. F) have been on Brintellix for two weeks (5mg and 10mg, respectively) and additionally to the common side effects like nausea, dizziness, and itching I'm losing noticeably more hair than before. Did anyone experience the same effect and has it stopped?
Is anyone on Brintellix also experiencing hair loss?

I’ve been taking trintellix for the last 15 months. My hair has been falling out for 7 straight months. I’m still taking the trintellix and since I’ve now lost 50% of my hair and you can see my scalp o have decided to lower my dose to half and hopefully discontinue the drug.
YES, I had extremely thick hair was charged extra for cutting however after I started trintellix I lost hand fulls, plugged up vacuum, had to clear shower drain several times a shower. My hair was to the middle of my back so thin now won’t hold ponytail. 10 mg didn’t know it was that till I read other reviews. So sad
I know with other me d s that I experienced hair loss that 6 months later, it went away. It may seem like a long wait, but if the meds help, it is worth the wait. Best of luck to you!
I (49 yrs M) am on Brintellix (10 mg) now for 6 months and have not observed any changes in hair. I had other medications before which made my pillow full of hair, but now with brintellix this is not the case.
Beside this it helps me greatly and adverse effect (nausea) is gone for the last month or so.
My doctor prescribed me with Brintellix for depression but I came off it after 4 weeks as it made me feel suicidal as well as losing half my hair! Thank goodness I had a lot of thick hair. It came out in clumps 2 days after I started the tablets. The shower was clogged up, every time I put my hands in my hair it would come out and it ended up all over the house! I've now been off Brintellix for about 10 days & am feeling happier. My hair is no longer falling out as much but the texture has totally changed and it is very thin. For me, this medication was pure poison. I am so upset my doctor prescribed it. He told me he'd never heard of anyone losing their hair whilst taking it and that he was surprised I got on so badly being only on the minimum dosage of 5mg.
I have 28 years old from Spain. I am taking Brintellix for 2 months. I am losing a lot of hair!!! I stopped the treatment and I am going to the doctor...
I’m only 17m, and it seems like my hair has started coming out somewhat quickly since starting this medication. I was concerned about hair loss before, but I’ve only been on 10 mg for about a week, and 5mg for a week before that. It’s concerning and I don’t know if it’s early stage balding, from my seborrheic dermatitis scalp issue, diet, or the meds. It’s really ramping up my already bad anxiety.
Yes and I've stopped the med just today after researching that yes your hair can fall out. My hairdresser has pulled out clumps.
I haven't taken this med, but any can cause hair loss & many docs don't know this! I use minoxidil 2%. My hair loss is due to hormones or low vit B. No one is sure why.
I've (31yrs/F) been on trintellix 4 months and I've experienced significant hair loss. It started out small, but has increased so much that I'm ready to titrate off of the med. Handfuls of hair fall out in the shower, right after I shower, while combing my hair and I'm constantly losing it throughout the day. Talk about depressing. I went to my doctor today for blood work. Everything appears normal so far. I'm really hoping that discontinuing the medication will alleviate the hair loss. I don't have much more to lose. Has anyone seen success post discontinuation? I'm dissapointed because I also felt like I was seeing good results, but the hair loss unfortunately outweighs all the positive aspects. I should add that I haven't changed anything else in my life, altough I've experienced increased nausea, constipation and decreased appetite while taking trintellix.
Exactly the same way with me. Worked great but the same side effects you had I had plus the massive hair loss
Hi there,
I'm so happy that I stumbled across this thread. I'm a 28fm and started taking Trintellix for close to a month now and I have been noticing that my hair has started falling out. This has happened before in the past when I switched birth controls, so clearly I'm sensitive to it. Has anyone else had hair loss with this med that stopped while they were still taking it? Thanks!
Yes, I,ve been on it for a month. 2 weeks ago I noticed significant hair loss. Talking/ doc tomorrow. Wondering if I can sue.
Let me know if you can, had long super thick hair now can’t even put a ponytail in makes me sad because of that alone
I just started Trintellix about 3 wks ago, same dosage as you and I have a definite loss of hair, since. I had this happen with Depakote as well in the last couple of yrs. Interesting too, because many yrs ago I was on Depakote without any side effects. Not only do meds affect people differently, our own chemistry changes and things can, over time affect us differently as well.
Yes After taking Brintellix I started itching everywhere. At first I thought it was just dry skin, but it didn't let up after moisturizing. Then I noticed that I was losing more hair than normal. I guess I'm just dense, but it took me awhile to figure out it was the Brintellix that was causing me problems. My hair did stop falling out when I discontinued the meds, but I'm not sure it all came back in. It was really depressing.
I had the itching too. Also nauseous, massive hair, loss, 10 lbs weight gain all has subsided but hair problems. Definitely discontinuing going back to cymbalta
I had super thick hair down to the middle of my back after 2 months on trintellix I can no longer get it to stay in a very small ponytail. Lost it in brush fulls even stopped the roller on my vacuum had to cut it out. Does it work? Yes but I quit taking it on my own don’t want to be bald.
I can’t say that I have had that experience. I don't see it in any of the clinical studies either. I suggest you talk to your doctor about this one.

Thanx for the answer. The problem is that Brintellix has only been on the German market for about a month, so from experience I might actually know more about side effects than my psychiatrist who has prescribed the drug for the first time ;-) The hair loss might be just a freak coincidence, but other than my medication nothing has changed in my lifestyle which could explain it :-/
Yes. I have been losing A LOT of hair... like every single time I even run my fingers through my hair, a full handful falls out. This has been going on for like 3 or 4 months now... I had my thyroid checked, and it was fine. I am also on Lamotrigine, the generic for Lamictal. In the beginning, I remember intense scalp itchiness. I looked it up online, and it says it's a sign of neurological damage. I know it sounds bad, but I'm treatment resistant and this drug combination is the only one that has ever worked, so I don't wanna give it up and go back. Hope this helps.
30 yo/f sorry forgot to put it
Dear HollyT, thank you so much for your answer. I've started thinking that I was just imagining things :-/ By now I have switched to another medication, because I couldn't take the itching anymore, and when people around me started noticing my loss of hair and I couldn't help crying everytime I brushed or even touched my hair and whole strands of it just fell out, I decided to stop Brintellix. Looking back now - and this might be a case of nostalgia - I sometimes regret my decision, because apart from the physical side effects the drug really affected my levels of energy and my ability to concentrate on my work in a positive way I haven't experienced before or since. So I do understand that despite everything you wouldn't want to change your medication once it seems to work. I hope things will turn out for the best for you, HollyT! Fingers crossed :-)
I was wondering if this was a side effect. I was losing my hair and was concerned that I was having a reoccurence of thyroid cancer (survivor x2), but all tests show I am cancer free. I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Wondering if I should go off Brintellix to see if my hair comes back. It is very thin in the front.
Oops forgot to say I'm a 45 yof
I'm a 36 yo female, be experiencing major hair loss, but it works well.
I definitely think it’s what caused me to loss 75% of my hair. That’s the only change I’ve made.
My friend takes it with no hair loss, but I have lost approximately 75% of mine!
