Ashamed as I am to post this, here goes... I have a misdemeor warrant in Las Vegas that is so old I know I'll have to serve some time (at most 2 months) does anyone know if I can get Ambien in, if I have A valid script, while I'm there? I've already gone off all regular pain meds to prepare myself, I could'nt bear the thought of detoxing in jail. I hate myself for having this problem, I will be grateful for any input.

Hi Kitty, I used to work one state over in Arizona. When one of my homeless clients found themselves in jail I had to make sure a jail doc saw them ASAP in the jail and prescribed the meds they needed. You were not allowed to bring ANY in with you. Scripts had to be written by the jail doc, and sorry to say they were in no hurry. This went for folks that had serious need of all kinds of meds. You should be prepared for the worst, sorry to say. I don't know what Nevada is like but most institutions don't allow outside meds in. mindy
Hi KCG - I'm pretty sure they won't give you Ambien in jail. It is a controlled substance and at least here in Texas they won't give that to you even if you have a valid script. They will give you Trazadone or Elavil. Maybe that would help? I am sorry you are having to go through this but don't be ashamed. We have all been there. Where we have to deal with the wreckage of our past. I'm proud of you for not only taking responsibility but reaching out to others about it. You will do fine sweetie. All my prayers are with you. Take care my friend.
Big hugs -Terri-
Hi Kittycatgirl2,
Don't feel bad. I'm sure a lot of us have done things we are not proud of when we were younger. Not sure what you are allowed to take in jail. You would think that if your doctor recommended a script of your own that would be allowed but not sure. Try calling the jail yourself and find out the protocols of meds.
Good luck and hope this time goes quickly for you while you are in jail.
Take care of yourself!
thank you everyone for your suggestions.
Dear kittycatgirl2,
I don't have an answer to you're specific question. I have a family member that was in jail, that was given something for their anxiey. I don't know about sleep meds. But don't be too hard on yourself. We have all made mistakes. I will pray that everything will turn out for you allright while you are in there. Best of luck to you, and God bless honey. Ruth
I was going to answer this & decided not to, then saw your post about using Ambien from your boyfriends script. They will not let you use someone else script in jail. If you had your own, maybe, not probably not ambien. A life or death med like for diabeties as in insulin they have too, but not a drug such as ambien, & you be careful on that too as I have heard of people doing some very strange behaviors on this drug. Sleepwalking, eating, driving, etc... I kid you not. So have your boyfriend on alert that these things are possible for you to do while on this prescription...
Yes he's getting one, but I have been prescribed it before< I am hopeful i will be able to again, after all my drama is over. KCG The only thing I've been known to do, much to my dismay is sleep eat. But thanks for looking out for me.
You are very welcome! Mary
