I have severe allergies with asthma, and I have taken prescription flonase, zyrtec, and hydroxyzine daily for years. My doctor explained that different allergy meds are processed by different parts of the system, so they are working together, not on top of each other.
Fluticasone (Flonase) is a corticosteroid that works in decreasing inflammation while Cetirizine (Zyrtec) is an antihistamine that works by blocking the effects of the chemicals that are responsible for many allergic symptoms. These medications can safely be taken together without causing any drug-to-drug interaction.
