Hello, I was prescribed Victoza for weight loss and had some of pretty intense side effects including Nausea, diarrhea, belching and fatigue. I dropped that immediately and now my Dr has me starting monjauro. Are my side effects going to be the same? If so, I don’t think I want to start it, it’s not fun. Phentermine has worked well but is losing its effectiveness.

My experience with Mounjaro has just begun. I took my first 2.5 mg injection 4 days ago. I can honestly say that the first 24 hours were pretty rough. I had no appetite, but managed to eat small portions, which led to pretty severe bloating and constipation. However, those symptoms were treatable and have begun to get slightly and slowly better with each 24 hrs that passes. I will say that nausea is also present, usually overnight or when I go long periods of time between meals. Here’s my results since taking my first dose 4 days ago: previously, before mounjaro, I was taking up 100 mg of NovoLog and 75 mg of Tresiba daily. Since taking my first injection of mounjaro (2.5 mg, 4 days ago) I have taken no more than 25 mg of NovoLog per day and 0 mg of Tresiba. The only negative so far is that my weight has increased by 7.25 lbs as a result of the constipation, which I am treating with MiraLax, ducolqx and colace.
My doctor expects the side effects to subside as my body gets used to the mounjaro.
To summarize: starting Mounjaro has been bothersome and irritating, but, (assuming that my doctor is correct and the negative symptoms dissipate over time) it is worth the unpleasantness and being uncomfortable for a short time at the beginning of treatment.
Make sure your Dr starts you on the smallest dose (2.5mg). I had only minor side effects. Some nausea, heartburn, constipation. I take Zofran for the nausea and Pantoprazole for the heartburn. For the constipation Mag07 is great. Also as time goes by and your body gets used to the medication the side effects dissipate for the most part. You can stay on 2.5mg until your body gets used to the medication, before going up a dose. Most people do not have bad side effects like the other commenter talked about. This is only a very small minority…the vast majority of patients do well on it, especially those who are taking it for T2 diabetes.
I took a 2nd shot & am sick like a dog. ER for IV fluids & belly pain. Extreme vomiting & diarrhea, bloating, gas, weakness, dizziness, confusion, overwhelming belly pain for 5 days now. Can't keep anything in. No water, absolutely no food. My partner took 1 shot & has had diarrhea since. Not a good fit for us at all. People should be told of this severity of sickness. I'll stay fat if this is how it is to be thin.
Hi Handiwork,
I took my first 2.5 dose last Friday and only had mild nausea. I am going at 4 weeks on each dose up the ladder. Your post was some time ago. Can you tell me the outcome? Thank you.
